“My work is the resource I use to raise my voice and banging on the table demonstrating, here we are the nobodies willing to fight for our dignity.
My means of expression are jewelry subversive, which is not willing to follow the path of repetition and custom that has been laid out for us by a capitalist, sexist, racist, homophobic, classist, clerical and heteropatriarchal society that takes away our dignity and the right to disobedience. Going beyond , this power that orders us to fight against the other, because it is our enemy and we must see it as a threat.”
How does your work relate to the theme connection?
“With this piece (brooch) my intention is to make violence visible in all its spectrums against difference and how these violent acts are justified, where many times it ends the lives of many."

What role does connection play in your creative process?
“My creative process begins with my environment, I come from one of the most unequal countries in the world, where wealth is in the hands of a few, therefore poverty and shortages are there every day and this environment feeds my work in a way of protest, I want the gaze of others to question themselves when they see my work and with the situation we have on the planet, the truth is that it is only enough to look outside to have something to talk about with my pieces."
What connection(s) does your queerness make to the world around you?
"I always thought that my family was very oblivious to my condition, when I let them know they didn't say anything and I assumed that they didn't have any problem with it, but I couldn't have been wrong, at 49 years old when I review situations from my past I find myself with fact that I always idealized my older brothers but their homophobia was there and I never realized... we have a society that forces us children to lie and that seeks to make us feel bad about who we are, where our first love is something we must hide because it would be a "reason for shame" and this makes me question daily how you can be so cruel to a child for the mere fact of being different"

Anything else you would like to share about this work?
This can be an important part of the process, sourcing materials, or research.
“This piece is dedicated to Danna Menéndez, a trans activist and social leader murdered in Colombia after the peace process signed in 2016.
She defended the rights of the LGBTI community in her community, she made the decision to work for this cause after being forced to drop out of the educational system due to discrimination due to her sexual orientation."
